Kindergarten, first, and second grade teachers deliver an orderly progression of explicit phonics lessons and, as the children become competent and confident readers, push them to discover the best that literature and nonfiction have to offer while doggedly building up their comprehension through weekly word study, spelling tests, and story analysis. The Road to Reading can be used as a stand-alone intervention program, or to supplement and support a basal series. You can read it and entertain your listener with funny noises, and later add movements, then later still make a dramatic performance that includes your child. He did not notice the pictures, but the mechanism of turning amazed him.
Not Just for Small Groups While I use the task cards during small groups, they also work very well as a quick reading response activity when students have been doing independent reading during reader's workshop. Her eponymous TV series has won her a bundle of awards and millions of fans. I first read this book over 3 years ago and it still impacts what I bring in my house.
It speaks to any female with family, friends and basic insecurities. I believe that if you are a passionate reader, the world is a much more pleasant place. Observational assessment points within the lessons allow the tutor to discover and work on not-yet-mastered precursor skills that would otherwise hamper achievement.
